Meet Richard Oliver - Guitarist, Wampler Product Designer & More
Richard Oliver is a creative Swiss army knife with a knack for blending tech, design, and a love of all things musical. For the last six years, he's been deep in the world of boutique guitar gear, consulting through his company, Amplify Creative Marketing, for big names like Boutique Amps Distribution (home to Wampler, Friedman, Tone King, Soldano, and Synergy) and the legendary ENGL Amps.
At Wampler Pedals, Richard wears many hats - graphic design, technical manual writing, and general “make-sure-it-works-and-looks-good” duties fall squarely under his watch. When he’s not refining pedal graphics or translating electronics into human, he’s quietly powering the digital presence of several brands, building and maintaining websites that don’t fall apart the moment someone looks at them funny.
Richard is also one of the voices behind the long-running Chasing Tone Podcast, where he’s co-hosted over 300 episodes of pedal banter, tone nerdery, and the occasional philosophical detour. If you’ve ever wondered what happens when guitar enthusiasts are given microphones and no adult supervision, that’s the place to find out.
His journey started with a BSc (Hons) in Information Technology from the University of Portsmouth in 1997. He was a co-founder of The Innovation Group plc, which grew into a FTSE 250 company during the first dot-com boom—back when “surfing the web” wasn’t an ironic phrase. He later wrangled marketing for a few other tech firms, but the lure of music, design, and things with knobs proved too strong.
Today, Richard keeps some of the most respected names in guitar gear looking and sounding their best - while quietly wondering if anyone reads bios all the way to the end (if you did, cheers - go treat yourself to a biscuit - no gravy though).

Richard Oliver’s MIDI course is absolutely brilliant. It gives you all the information you need to start - or level up - your MIDI game, all in a pedalboard-friendly package. Think of it as learning to harness “the Force” of MIDI, only without the risk of turning to the Dark Side. Richard keeps things clear, practical, and (very Britishly) no-nonsense. No waffle, just solid guidance that actually works. By the end, you’ll feel like a Jedi Master of MIDI - tea in one hand, footswitch in the other

Great course for understanding the ins and outs of midi
I will admit that I have had midi devices for a long time and the technology seemed voodoo to me. I knew I could do more with my devices alone and together but I never took the time to read the thick manuals to figure out the technical details of how to make everything work. If you are like me try this course out. Richard teaches in a straightforward manner with humor and great examples. I couldn’t ask for more from an intro course dealing with midi. I feel the fog has lifted and I am able to fully use my gear now, Thanks Richard!
